See you guys later

Thank you sooo much Dr. Strange and Mr. Sullivan for educating me to the extent of which I believe now I am technology literate. I really enjoyed having both of you as my instructors and would recommend everyone to take your class. I also really enjoyed working with class E and sharing the many talents of myself and my classmates.

SEE YOU GUYS LATER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Final Blog Assignment

When I entered edm310 I thought I was technology literate until I was assigned to do so many things and had not clue on how to do them until I was given instructions. The projects I was assigned to do were very easy and if given directions a first grader could do them. I learned so much in this class and I am very thankful this class is offered and required with my major. If I had not taken this class I would not have been an effective teacher for my students. The best thing I learned in edm 310 would have to be blogging. I really enjoy conversing with people all over the world and sharing my thoughts and opinions with them. I would recommend blogging as an assignment for students starting in elementary school because it will improve their education being able to learn and teach world wide. I also really enjoyed skype. I knew how to use skype before I entered the class but had no idea it would be useful for me at school. The fun part about it is being able to talk to someone and see them at the same time. I did not enjoy itunes very much because I am not an audio learner. I am tactile and visual when it comes to teaching me something but I do enjoy teaching others through audio. Google Earth was also very fun. I had experience with Google earth before I entered this class so I was not totally lost when I was assigned a project with it. Comments for kids was very interesting and fun because I really enjoyed reading the students post and commenting on them. Comments for teachers was very educational to me because I got ideas from the teachers I was assigned to on how to setup my classroom and handle certain situations with my students. I really did not like comment for students because just about every student I was assigned to was not up to date on their assignments. Before I enrolled in this class I did not have a PLN but now I am building one which is becoming very helpful to me being a college student. I learned many different new things in edm310 and overall I really enjoyed the class. I think the class was very self explanatory and I was given adequate amount of information to successfully complete this class.

Assignment for 04/25/10

The 7th grades PLE was very will put together. I can tell she put alot of thought, time and effort into her PLE. Her PLE is actually put together better than mine right now because I have not decided how I would like to put it together. I learned more about how to put together a PLN from watching the 7th grades and now I can build my PLN from the ideas I got from her's. I am glad I watched her video because I learned a lot from it.

The what's my sentence question is basically a question of who you are and what you stand for in life. My sentence is "I am Carlecia McIntosh" and was I better today than yesterday is what I strive to do everyday which is be the best that I can be.

Assignment for 04/04/10

Mr. C’s class blog is a great example of how technology is becoming so modern and is changing the way teachers approach the education process. Its is allowing for them to involve people all over the world in their career to help them become a better teacher. In dear Kaia’s This This That blog she is only a baby and is learning how to use technology and share it with the world. Her father is teaching her great techniques on how to look closely at things at find something beautiful in them. Kaia is already being very well educated even though she lives in the desert, but it is not stopping her from learning. The post are great examples of what technology can do and how your ideas can be spread across the world and if you have concerns about something how they can be answered by someone who may know something on that subject matter. I can see teaching and learning in the future being very open and independent. It will allow from the youngest person to collaborate with people world wide and become educated about many things as much as they like.

Assignment for 03/28/10

Morgan Bayda

Morgan Bayda’s post is an inspiration for all college students. All the issues she and Dan addressed have crossed my mind. I totally thought I could become paperless this semester by purchasing me a little netbook and basically becoming more professional. When I get to all of my classes every syllabus says "we will learn the old fashion way paper and pencil" I have been discouraged every since. We are not in the old fashion days and I believe as adults we should be able to use whatever material we desire as long as it is not a disturbance. We as college students pay way too much money for this in my opinion "nonsense". Touching on the issue of too much work. I have not figured out the reason for teachers giving a tub load of work and a novel of pages to read every night. Teachers fail to realize that most college students are full-time and work full-time and also have to be full-time parents. In my opinion I believe it is just busy work as if we are in high school because that is what I feel like.

Touching on the topic of boring teachers or teachers that rant as Dan would put it is causing many college students become less interested in school and even so discouraging as to drive some students to drop out.. My attention span is not very long like many other individuals and I need topic and discussion time in order for me to grasp the material and be able to remember what was taught for the future. As you stated how can you be a lazy teacher yet teach your students to be enthusiastic teachers. I also feel we are cheated out of our money every semester on books. We spend hundreds of dollars on books and honestly in some classes I have never open my book for some classes. When I get ready to sell the book back guess what it is no longer in use at that university or the would like to give me 10% of what I have spent. Also having a PLN is a great part of education and learning because as in Ms. Bayda‘s post by her having a PLN she was able to find volunteer work for free because she was able to voice her opinion worldwide and it was recognized. In my opinion Ms. Bayda’s opinions and thoughts should be addressed in the college meetings because it is becoming an ongoing problem.

I am a student at the university of south Alabama in Dr. Strange's edm310 technology class. Reading and commenting on your blog is apart of my assignment. I really found your post to be very interesting and educational. I really learned a lot from you blog because I did not know you could do so much with a document camera. It is a great idea to use technology resources as a way to enlighten people on things they may not know. This will allow teachers to set up their daily schedules, grade homework, do classroom quizzes and also do a lot of brain storming. I enjoyed reading your blog and I look forward to learning much more from your post. I am leaving a link to my class blog. I really enjoyed your post on technology in the classroom. The young lady who was the key not speaker stated some great points about technology does need to be used in the classroom because it is used in the world. Teachers are afraid that technology will take over the classroom but it is only a means of an end to achieving better education. Interactive whiteboard should be put in all schools throughout the country because they grasp students attention and promotes better achievement and more participating students in the classroom. Once again I did enjoy the video and I am also learning more and more about technology everyday from your post.

Hello my name is Carlecia McIntosh and I am in Dr. Strange's EDM310 class. Reading your post is apart my assignment. I really enjoyed reading the assignment because you made great points about children need to be heard. Children are the future and in order to shape the future to be a successful place we have to get the ideas of the ones who will be in charge of the future. Adults have the tendency to not listen to children because they do not know what they are talking about. Needless to say if they were to listen more often they will more than likely learn something. I can only imagine how exciting and fulfilling your visit was and how influencing the people you met were to you. Once again you are a very bright young lady and continue to voice your.

Assignment for 03/07/10

I really enjoyed the lecture by Mr. Pausch. He touched on some great topics about achieving success in life. Mr. Pausch speech was much about in all that you do in life make sure you engage in helping others. Always try to find something to do that involves doing something to brighten someone’s day. He also made a great point about how to teach someone something hard. He stated you have to have the person think they are learning something else.
The speech also was very inspiring because he motivates you throughout the speech about following you dreams. He does not feel anyone should not have dreams and not follow their dreams. He feels everyone should try to be happy everyday of their life and keep the negativity out of your life. He encourages everyone to strive hard at what ever dream your pursue and be the best you can at whatever you be.
Through his speech he tells many stories about his parents and how he blessed to have had such great, inspiring, and caring parents in his life. He talks about how strong and encouraging his father was. His father always talked to him about be the best you can be and to always find a way to help others. He also was told by his father to put others first. His father taught him to love and care for his family and to put God first.
Mr. Pausch was giving his last speech to an audience who was under the impression the speech was an inspirational speech for them but in turn it was intentionally given for Mr. Pausch children. This misinterpretation goes back to what Mr. Pausch stated in the beginning of his speech about when you are trying to teach a lesson have your audience think they are learning something else and in the end they will have learned the intended lesson.

Comment4kidsI enjoyed the video because I learned some teaching tips form it. As a teacher you have to be very detailed with students because they only do what you tell them to do. The students did not seem to understand the lesson that was being taught because the teachers only told them about the information that would be on the test. The students did not feel the other information in the lesson would be important to know so there for the teacher had a hard time going over the lesson because no one knew what he was talking about. Assignment for 02/28/10

Using writing as multimedia is not fundamental it is incremental change. It will take time and eventually become the dominant resource for writing courses. It deals with sharing knowledge, collaborating and composing film as well as documents that are both visual and written. The writing material include material that was used years ago so it is a little old and a little new. As change come about we will be working solely in a digital environment.

Material is changing before our eyes and updated daily. Itunes is a resourced that is considered multimedia and great to visit because there you can find academic lectures and plenty of technology resources. We as future educators must be in the business of sharing ideas freely to produce alternative stories and distribute it globally and freely. Teaching writing can be a problem if getting access to all resources are not available.

People have become great composers using multimedia instead of using alphabets. To create spaces to teach multimedia it is going to require extraordinary combinations that we do not have as well as inspiring teachers to teach the writing courses. The goal of this technology is not the technology itself but what it allows us to tackle which is the fundamental problem of humanities.

The movie is a great example of a college student completing a network course. The 21st century student network include many communication tools. The teacher is needed for the networked student because she teaches him how to build the network. The teacher is there to offer guidance when the student gets stuck. Teacher is there to show the student how to communicate properly. The teacher is also there to show the student how to distinguish between good information and not so good information. The teacher is there to instruct the student how to turn a web search into a scavenger hunt.. The teacher is there to help the student to organize their information and to prepare the student on creating a PLN. Taking a hybrid course is great but it can become very challenging for students who needs direct instruction on what to do and how to do it. I am one of those students. I love taking hybrid courses as long as it is an thorough base instruction course. I am also a some what moderately slow learner so I have to be shown more than once how to complete a certain task.

I enjoyed the video about evolution and I deal with social anxiety everyday. I am always worried about saying the wrong thing and if my opinion counts. We have to stop talking about what needs to be done and start doing it. Many people are critics of what someone else have done and have contributed nothing to the project. In my future profession I will still have to be worried about what I say and if people will judge me by my opinion.

I really enjoyed Alyssa's post for comments 4 kids. She included facts about a two toed sloth that I did not know. I learned two or three new things about the sloth that was very interesting. I did leave a comment but it has not posted to her blog because it has to be reviewed by the teacher first. Assignment for 02/21/10

How it could be useful to you as a teacher.
It is a comprehensive resource for educators who wish to use technology in the classroom. This site would be very useful to me and many other educators because it provides resources for web design, links to research publications, and an overview of consulting service . The website provide many ways for a teachers to enhance their teaching and students learning through technology. It also provides many teaching strategies for K-12 teachers.

The website gives many examples on how to use instant messaging, pod casting, rubrics, multimedia and much more. The website also provides links to workshops Dr. Christie has invited which is a great example for a teacher to get an idea of what a teachers workshop provides to them. It provides links to representative research publications that are online which give students an opportunity to explore the world from inside the classroom. The website provides free consultation for teachers who are looking to engage in challenging, and invigoration activities to help them become a better teacher.

itunes University
itunes university is a free service hosted by Apple that allows instructors, administrators, and affiliates to manage, distribute, and control access to educational content. itunes university is a source I can access to get information about educational content 24/7. It is helpful to me as a student because I can learn how to use podcast and compose my own podcast. It is helpful to teachers because they can access content to present to their students through audio and video

itunes university support many media formats. I was able to get a smart board lesson through a podcast. I was able to acquire information on how to teach K-12 graders a particular subject. itunes university is a great site for advertisement as well as learning about technology.

Suggestions or experiences in using ipods
Ipods are easy to use and have a clear goal of facilitation the effective production, transfer and dissemination of digital audio and video and beyond the limitations of the analogue world. Ipods are now deconstruction the border between education and entertainment. Campuses throughout the nation are now transforming ipods into education tools, a trend Apple hopes to capitalize on with "itunes U" a nationwide service that makes lecture, and other materials available online. They are also study aids for students. It allows for students to fast-forward to a part of a lecture they may not have understood the first time. Some K-12 educators and schools have also started using the ipods to enhance their curriculum and to support learning objectives in content areas such as -mathematics, science, reading, and history. In K-12 for instance, foreign language students in an elementary classroom can create an Internet shared presentation slide show report on their community and using the ipod and voice recorder the children can create audio recordings in a foreign language to add to their digital photos and then the narrated slide show with their partner schools. Students at Duke University used the ipod in many ways. They downloaded a specially created calendar of the athletic events on campus, they also used it as a pseudo-PDA. Some students reported tracking birthdays, exams, and other critical dates. http://practicalprincipals.net/

blog assignment

I really enjoyed the video from room 14. It was short and to the point of how kind the school is towards the students. It also was a great experience for the students to exploit their talent.

In my opinion wikipedia can never be a trusted source because it is edited daily by different organizations. People edit wikipedia with information they believe is correct. Wikipedia should be an opinion source. Data without context is very useless. To make wikipedia a better and more reliable source it should be organized by one organization and made illegal to edit.

Becoming a teacher was a very overwhelming within the first year. Mr.McClung had to learn how to be flexible. He had to realize that no lesson is ever perfect. The lesson you teach and the one you plan are always different. Mr.McClung stated communication be is the medicine and I totally agree. It is the best way to build a relationship with fellow teachers. Teachers have to make sure they are always encouraging the students. Technology is our friend and teachers need to overcome their fear of computers so they will be able to educate their students effectively. Teachers also have to make sure they listen to their students as well. Mr. McClung's blog is very helpful to present and future teacher. I will make sure I use many of the tips offered in the blog.

Assignment for 02/14/10

I chose integrating ICT into the MFL classroom because it outlined great ways to interact outside the classroom. It allows for differentiation in the classroom. It also allows for creativity and innovation. Podcast offer a new and relevant way to excite children about learning.

Podcasting projects allow students to demonstrate higher order thinking skills. Vodcast allows student to incooperate visuals into their projects and enhance their overall experience. It is a great way for parents to see and hear what their children are doing at school. It also offer distance learning opportunities for absent students.

I really enjoyed the We Time Travel video. It was a fun yet educational project because it allowed the students to learn about famous Americans. Everyone in the video perform very well and should keep up the good work.

Mrs. Goerend's is preparing her students to become professional writers. She is also giving them the opportunity to experience a global view of their work by other people. The assignment is a great way for students to identify themselves and their writing techniques. The assignment will prepare them for later studies in writing and will allow them to explore other forms of writing. I believe blogging is a new standard of teaching as well as learning for the students and will prepare them for more advanced classes they can consider in the future.

I did enjoy the poem titled Snow by Chelsey S., because it reminded me of how I have always wanted to play in the snow, but never could because I am from the south. My comment included how I enjoyed the poem and I also pointed out the structure of the poem. My feed back did include a sentence of exposition but not to the extent of criticism. I did explain in detail why I felt a certain line or two should have included different information but the overall feed back was constructive.

Media Literacy by Kathy Cassidy

This video shows how fast technology is growing and how it is helping our children. I was very amazed after watching this video because it brought to my attention I will have students just like the ones from the video in my class. I have to be able to educate them on very high standards. It is very unique how they understand what a blog, wiki and skype is and how to use these programs.

The children in the video understands the purpose of a blog and the proper way to comment on a blog. Children today who have the material and tools to learn are learning at a much faster rate than children long ago. The rate at which they are learning will possible allow the students of the future to graduate at an earlier age and give them more opportunities within their career.

Iphone used by 1 year old baby

The video on the baby using the iphone is amazing. Children developing cognitively fast. Their intelligences is far beyond the normal I Q. This video is an example of how as a future teacher I need to be prepared to educate my students as well as get educated by my students. There will be times when my students will have to instruct me which is all apart of being an educator. Teaching is becoming more experimental and exciting which will drive more people to look into the teaching profession.

Podcast

The smartboard lessons podcast was recorded in the process of the producer eating lunch. I did not enjoy this podcast much because of how it was recorded. The kidcast podcast was interesting to me because the topic touched on video podcasting which some people refer to as vodcasting. In this process you are doing a podcast but using video on the media. There are different formats of podcasting.

Audio podcasting is the best and safest podcasting. The importance of video podcasting is to capture nonverbal interactions. Content may require demonstration.Podcasting consist of using a portable media player. Students learn more by visual demonstration.

EdTechTalk is a podcast of a radio talk show. Students will bring their opinion about the topic of the show. the show give students opportunity to create a show and what do they think of it. The most challenging part of this podcast is finding guest. The host would like for the students to find the guest of the show. Facebook is one source for finding guest.

Macbreak Weekly podcast is about publishing high quality blog. Advertising through a podcast. I did not enjoy this podcast much because of the way it was recorded. This Week in Photography podcast is a talk show advertisement. A guy is interviewing people and getting their opinion on blogging. I did enjoy this podcast because it not only advertised but it also gave people the opportunity to speak their opinion on the product.

A Vision of Students Today by Michael Wesch

In this video students were able to use google docs and spreadsheets to edit information about a particular subject. In college many teachers do not know your name. At big universities you are only a number. Students are assigned readings that only about 30% is relevant to their life. Most college students only read about 45% of the assigned material. As students we are forced to purchase hundred dollar books that we never open. When it is time to sell the books back they are only worth 10% of the original purchase or they are no longer in use by that university. Many students never come to class. Students are given multiple test that are irrelevant to their major and many students dropout because of this matter.

This movie really captured my college experience because I have always thought about every fact that was outlined in the video. I would have added more demonstrations of daily life task of a student. An example of a student performing all the task that were outlined would have given the video viewers a better understanding of characteristics of students today. Also teachers do not possess the adequate amount of professional development.

It's Not About The Technology by Kelly Hines

Technology is a tool and can only be useful if you understand how to use it. The tools teachers are using today for instruction will not be without an evolution mindset. The list of four things that teachers must recognize in order to be effectively and positively impact students are the key facts to becoming a successful educator. Teachers also have to be dedicated in order for them to educate the students to their full potential.

A successful teacher has to be kept updated on technology, research and the proper teaching tools. Many teachers are not taking out the time to familiarize themselves with the updated material required to teach the students. Due to the lack of knowledge and passion to learn many of our teachers are causing our students to be below the basic standards for learning.

Is it okay to be a Technologically Illiterate Teacher? by Karl Fisch

Many teachers are technologically illiterate which is causing our students to fall below the basic learning standards. Teachers are not investing in the time to get educated on advancing technology. Teachers should be required throughout the year to take technology courses to stay updated on the latest technology. Once they have mastered the skill they should be required to teach it to their students.

Many teachers are using the excuse technology is advancing to rapidly and that is the excuse for not keeping up. Mr. Fisch mentioned in his post that technology is as important as reading and I totally agree. Technology is apart of just about every new project that arise in today's society. Technology is used as additional ways to communicate, liberate, and accomplish goals. Therefore it is not okay to be a technologically illiterate teacher.

The Correlation of Technology and Students

Mr. Winkle Wakes by Matthew Needleman

Mr. Winkles video is a great example of how education has evolved over a period of time through technology. The video was a great example of how it does not take long for education and its techniques to change. One day children were learning from chalk boards and today they are learning from power point presentations associated with technology. Mr. Winkle also found some aspects of education to be the same from 100 years ago.

Mr. Winkle's video was a great explanation of how education is advancing. Students are evolving into learning from computers more so than textbooks. Technology is not only evolved through education, but also health care. Also, Mr. Winkle discovered many new machines in health care that were not there many years ago. However, they are here today thanks to the advancement of technology.

Did You Know 3.0 by Karl Fisch

The information given in the video was quite enlightening. The statistics of china soon being the number one English speaking country in the world has me puzzled slightly. China's population is growing tremendously. Therefore, it leads me to wonder why their country may take over the English language. I have concluded that all of the statistics outlined in the video are technologically related.

I find it hard to believe India has more honors students than America when America is believed to be more advanced educational and technology wise. I find it interesting that 1 out of 8 couples married in the U.S last year met online. All of these statistics not only give you an idea related to education but to the world itself as a whole. Basically technology is taking over the world faster than we can imagine.

Harness Your Students Digital Smarts by Vicki Davis

This video brought to my attention very interesting facts about being an educator but learning as you teach. I use to think that learning as you teach made an educator look somewhat uneducated. After the video I understood how learning as you teach is not only helpful but is almost a requirement if you are teaching technology. Technology is rapidly advancing each and every day so it is almost impossible to know everything about it.

Ms. Davis mentioned in her video that learning by only pencil and only paper will allow only certain children to succeed which is very true. Many children require other techniques and methods of learning and many of the techniques do not involve pencil and paper. Technology has opened the pathway for learning and is allowing students to better educate themselves as well as others.

The Importance of Creativity by Sir Ken Robinson

This speech should be viewed by many teachers because creativity is not emphasized enough in today's society. Creativity is as important now as literacy and it should be treated that way, but it is not. When children are young being wrong is not as frightening as it is when they are older. Being wrong is now frowned upon and has caused educators to educate people out of their creative capacities.

Creativity has produced technology and is allowing work to be less strenuous. The intelligence of creativity has three important meanings. Intelligence is diverse, dynamic, and distinct. The story of Gillian Lynne should be told to many educators for them to get a better understanding of how to nurture a child with a learning disorder. The speech was great material and should be valued by many people who do not understand creativity and how it influences us as maturing human beings.
