Assignment for 02/28/10

Using writing as multimedia is not fundamental it is incremental change. It will take time and eventually become the dominant resource for writing courses. It deals with sharing knowledge, collaborating and composing film as well as documents that are both visual and written. The writing material include material that was used years ago so it is a little old and a little new. As change come about we will be working solely in a digital environment.

Material is changing before our eyes and updated daily. Itunes is a resourced that is considered multimedia and great to visit because there you can find academic lectures and plenty of technology resources. We as future educators must be in the business of sharing ideas freely to produce alternative stories and distribute it globally and freely. Teaching writing can be a problem if getting access to all resources are not available.

People have become great composers using multimedia instead of using alphabets. To create spaces to teach multimedia it is going to require extraordinary combinations that we do not have as well as inspiring teachers to teach the writing courses. The goal of this technology is not the technology itself but what it allows us to tackle which is the fundamental problem of humanities.

The movie is a great example of a college student completing a network course. The 21st century student network include many communication tools. The teacher is needed for the networked student because she teaches him how to build the network. The teacher is there to offer guidance when the student gets stuck. Teacher is there to show the student how to communicate properly. The teacher is also there to show the student how to distinguish between good information and not so good information. The teacher is there to instruct the student how to turn a web search into a scavenger hunt.. The teacher is there to help the student to organize their information and to prepare the student on creating a PLN. Taking a hybrid course is great but it can become very challenging for students who needs direct instruction on what to do and how to do it. I am one of those students. I love taking hybrid courses as long as it is an thorough base instruction course. I am also a some what moderately slow learner so I have to be shown more than once how to complete a certain task.

I enjoyed the video about evolution and I deal with social anxiety everyday. I am always worried about saying the wrong thing and if my opinion counts. We have to stop talking about what needs to be done and start doing it. Many people are critics of what someone else have done and have contributed nothing to the project. In my future profession I will still have to be worried about what I say and if people will judge me by my opinion.

I really enjoyed Alyssa's post for comments 4 kids. She included facts about a two toed sloth that I did not know. I learned two or three new things about the sloth that was very interesting. I did leave a comment but it has not posted to her blog because it has to be reviewed by the teacher first. A link to her blog is http://classblogmeister.com/blog.php?blog_id=1074146&mode=comment&blogger_id=299312#comments

Suggestions or experiences in using ipods
Ipods are easy to use and have a clear goal of facilitation the effective production, transfer and dissemination of digital audio and video and beyond the limitations of the analogue world. Ipods are now deconstruction the border between education and entertainment. Campuses throughout the nation are now transforming ipods into education tools, a trend Apple hopes to capitalize on with "itunes U" a nationwide service that makes lecture, and other materials available online. They are also study aids for students. It allows for students to fast-forward to a part of a lecture they may not have understood the first time. Some K-12 educators and schools have also started using the ipods to enhance their curriculum and to support learning objectives in content areas such as -mathematics, science, reading, and history. In K-12 for instance, foreign language students in an elementary classroom can create an Internet shared presentation slide show report on their community and using the ipod and voice recorder the children can create audio recordings in a foreign language to add to their digital photos and then the narrated slide show with their partner schools. Students at Duke University used the ipod in many ways. They downloaded a specially created calendar of the athletic events on campus, they also used it as a pseudo-PDA. Some students reported tracking birthdays, exams, and other critical dates. http://practicalprincipals.net/

blog assignment

I really enjoyed the video from room 14. It was short and to the point of how kind the school is towards the students. It also was a great experience for the students to exploit their talent.

In my opinion wikipedia can never be a trusted source because it is edited daily by different organizations. People edit wikipedia with information they believe is correct. Wikipedia should be an opinion source. Data without context is very useless. To make wikipedia a better and more reliable source it should be organized by one organization and made illegal to edit.

Becoming a teacher was a very overwhelming within the first year. Mr.McClung had to learn how to be flexible. He had to realize that no lesson is ever perfect. The lesson you teach and the one you plan are always different. Mr.McClung stated communication be is the medicine and I totally agree. It is the best way to build a relationship with fellow teachers. Teachers have to make sure they are always encouraging the students. Technology is our friend and teachers need to overcome their fear of computers so they will be able to educate their students effectively. Teachers also have to make sure they listen to their students as well. Mr. McClung's blog is very helpful to present and future teacher. I will make sure I use many of the tips offered in the blog.

Assignment for 02/14/10

I chose integrating ICT into the MFL classroom because it outlined great ways to interact outside the classroom. It allows for differentiation in the classroom. It also allows for creativity and innovation. Podcast offer a new and relevant way to excite children about learning.

Podcasting projects allow students to demonstrate higher order thinking skills. Vodcast allows student to incooperate visuals into their projects and enhance their overall experience. It is a great way for parents to see and hear what their children are doing at school. It also offer distance learning opportunities for absent students.

I really enjoyed the We Time Travel video. It was a fun yet educational project because it allowed the students to learn about famous Americans. Everyone in the video perform very well and should keep up the good work.

Mrs. Goerend's is preparing her students to become professional writers. She is also giving them the opportunity to experience a global view of their work by other people. The assignment is a great way for students to identify themselves and their writing techniques. The assignment will prepare them for later studies in writing and will allow them to explore other forms of writing. I believe blogging is a new standard of teaching as well as learning for the students and will prepare them for more advanced classes they can consider in the future.

I did enjoy the poem titled Snow by Chelsey S., because it reminded me of how I have always wanted to play in the snow, but never could because I am from the south. My comment included how I enjoyed the poem and I also pointed out the structure of the poem. My feed back did include a sentence of exposition but not to the extent of criticism. I did explain in detail why I felt a certain line or two should have included different information but the overall feed back was constructive.
